The City of Hackensack is hiring Class II Special Police Officers. Applicants must be certified SLEO II officers, New Jersey residents with a valid driver’s license, at least 18, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also pass background, medical, psychological, and drug screenings. Starting pay is $30 per hour, with court assignments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

The Sanitation Department Head shall oversee the Sanitation division of the Department of Public Works, including all administrative and supervisory duties for approximately 40 employees engaged in refuse collection. Establishes work plans and supervises the preparation and collection of routes for sanitation and recycling employees. Supervises and is responsible for the proper use of necessary equipment and supplies. Manages the operation of the removal of garbage, recycling, and bulk material from streets and curbs, residential high-rise buildings, etc. Maintains records of the distribution of Sanitation Carts and their corresponding ID numbers. Receives and investigates all internal and external complaints from both employees and residents. Conducts field investigations to ensure residents are complying with the appropriate regulations. Assists with the notification of individuals who violate regulations, and initiates actions to ensure compliance. Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience, including direct supervision of field personnel, assignment and coordination of routes, oversight of equipment operations, and responsibility for day-to-day field operations. Appointees will be required to possess a Commercial Driver’s License valid in NJ. Salary D.O.Q. within range: $80,000 to $120,000. Performs administrative and supervisory duties in planning and organizing the installation, maintenance, and repair of various public works facilities. Oversees the repair and maintenance of streets, sewers, public buildings and places, wastewater, public parks and Green Acres, shade tree, sanitation and recycling, motor vehicles, and all other areas of the DPW. Provides assignments and instructions to approx. 10 supervisors and 80 employees, and supervises their work. Prepares a departmental budget of approximately $6.2 million, and executes/plans for the effective utilization of available funds, personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies. Manages department purchases. May perform other similar duties. Must have five (5) years of supervisory experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewer, water, sanitation, or other public work facilities. Please note completion of college level credits in engineering courses at an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two (2) years of experience. Appointees must have a current certification as a Certified Public Works Manager (CPWM) issued by the NJDCA. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in NJ, CDL a plus. Under direction, patrols designated areas and issues summonses for motor vehicles to enforce state, county, or municipal statutes, resolutions, and ordinances for regulations related to the parking of motor vehicles within the municipality; does related work as required. Ability to check the condition of parking meters and informs those responsible for the repair of meters or any malfunctions. Hang and remove various temporary no parking signs in accordance with scheduled events, construction projects, and city planning requirements. Interact professionally and courteously with the public, addressing inquiries and providing guidance on parking regulations. Capable of walking or standing for extended periods of time in all types of weather. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Valid NJ Driver’s License required. Must be able to work weekends. Starting salary $17/hour. Candidate must respond to telephone or other electronic requests for emergency assistance, including law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services. Dispatches appropriate units to response sites as required. Must be able to obtain, verify and record details of the emergency with the use of video display, data processing, automatic number identification, and automatic location identification, switching equipment and/or other computer-oriented equipment to make a full assessment of the circumstances, while remaining calm and reassuring the caller. Under direction of the Construction Official, reviews plans and performs electrical inspection work to enforce the State Uniform Construction Code, the electrical subcode, and regulations adopted pursuant to the Uniform Construction Code Act; does other related work. Must be able to inspect and evaluate electrical work on construction projects. Must be able to inspect and or/ supervise inspection of electrical installations in existing buildings for conformance with the minimum safety standards incorporated in the regulations of the Uniform Code and relevant laws within the jurisdiction. May establish inspection schedules for subordinates. Prepare reports and maintain records and files. Appointee will be required to possess a valid driver’s license in the State of New Jersey; must have a valid license as an Electrical Inspector of the appropriate level, and as an Electrical Subcode Official from NJDCA; HHS license required. DAYTIME SHIFT (7am – 3pm)

Must possess a NJ valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Must have practical shop, computer diagnostic experience and be knowledgeable in diesel engines. Experience in repairing Police Vehicles, Light to Heavy Duty Trucks, Construction Equipment, Landscaping Equipment, & Snow Removal Equipment. Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines, and examines parts for defects and excessive wear. Reconditions and replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, and using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments. Successful completion of one (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school. Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines. Applicants who do not possess the required year of formal training may substitute one (1) additional year of experience. Possession of a certificate as a diesel mechanic issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence may be substituted for one (1) year of formal training. Under direction, performs plumbing inspection work to enforce relevant public health laws within the jurisdiction; does other related duties as required. Must be able to determine the cause of violations and take corrective action. Knowledge of material standards, inspection tools, and test methods. Under direction, inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the state uniform construction code. Enforces same to ensure public safety, health, and welfare; does other related work as required. Seeking a reliable and hardworking Building Maintenance Worker to perform moderately physically-strenuous tasks involved in the repair and maintenance of municipal facilities. Ideal candidate has basic knowledge/hands-on experience in multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry, and general contracting repairs. Some examples of work include fixing doors, patching, painting, drywall installation, replacing plumbing fixtures, assembling and arranging furniture, and using power tools for minor repairs. Must have the ability to work from heights in excess of 10 feet using ladders, and to lift, push, pull 50 to 100 pounds.
