The Hackensack Health Department Registered Environmental Health Specialists investigate complaints about environmental health hazards. In addition these inspectors investigate complaints concerning the businesses that we regulate which are located in Hackensack. This includes food establishments such as restaurants, grocery stores and delicatessens, personal grooming establishments, such as barber shops, beauty parlors and nail salons, child care facilities, public swimming pools and public spas, pet shops, and kennels nursing homes, hospitals and schools. The Department also investigates complaints about the health related aspects (heat, hot water, insects, lead paint, rodents and garbage) of rental housing. Housing complaints concerning things like broken windows, leaky roofs, and tall grass, are handled by the Department of Building, Housing and Land Use, Property Maintenance division.
