The Hackensack Police Department Patrol Division includes officers with advanced training assigned to specialized support roles, such as the Drone Unit and the Emergency Service Unit (ESU). These officers are equipped with specialized gear and capabilities to support a broad range of operations across the city.
Members of these teams undergo continuous, rigorous training and are often cross-trained in multiple disciplines to remain prepared for complex and high-risk situations. They are called upon to respond to incidents including, but not limited to, barricaded individuals, emotionally disturbed persons, water rescues, searches for missing persons or suspects, execution of search warrants, public disorder incidents, and major disasters.
The Emergency Service Unit plays a key role in enhancing community safety through proactive security checks of both soft and hard targets. ESU also delivers “Run, Hide, Fight” active threat response training to local organizations, providing them with critical tools to protect themselves in emergencies.
Additionally, many officers assigned to ESU also serve on regional specialized teams such as the Regional SWAT Team, Rapid Deployment Force, and Rapid Deployment Team, further strengthening the department’s ability to respond to a wide range of public safety challenges.
