Mondays are for Sunset Yoga
Start the week with mindfulness and movement through Sunset Yoga sessions held each Monday evening at Atlantic Street Park. Classes are offered at 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM and are open to participants of all skill levels. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats and enjoy the peaceful outdoor setting.
Tuesdays bring Concerts to the Courthouse Green
The Green, located just outside the Bergen County Courthouse, transforms into a lively open-air concert venue as the City of Hackensack presents its Summer Concert Series. This weekly event features high-energy performances by top tribute bands and local artists, offering a diverse mix of genres including classic rock, pop, and Latin music. The series reflects Hackensack’s ongoing commitment to free, family-friendly entertainment in the heart of the city.
On Tuesday, August 5, the concert series will shift to Atlantic Street Park in recognition of National Night Out, a nationwide initiative that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The evening will include live music along with activities designed to foster community engagement and public safety awareness. All are welcome to join in this celebration of connection and collaboration.
Wednesdays mean Shakespeare in the Park
Spend your Wednesday evenings enjoying live performances of Shakespeare in the relaxed setting of Atlantic Street Park, starting at 7:30 PM. Bring a blanket, meet up with friends, and take in two of the Bard’s most iconic works, brought to life by professional performers.
In July, audiences will be transported by The Tempest, a tale of shipwrecks, sorcery, and forgiveness. Set on a remote island ruled by the exiled Duke Prospero, this magical story explores themes of power, revenge, and reconciliation in one of Shakespeare’s most poetic and imaginative plays.
In August, the mood shifts with The Comedy of Errors, one of Shakespeare’s earliest and most energetic comedies. Centered on two sets of identical twins separated at birth, the play delivers a fast-paced mix of mistaken identities, slapstick moments, and escalating chaos, perfect for a lighthearted summer evening.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to Shakespeare, these performances offer an accessible and entertaining way to enjoy classic theater in the heart of downtown Hackensack.
Thursdays watch Movies Under the Stars
Spend your Thursday evenings at Atlantic Street Park enjoying Movies Under the Stars, with films starting at sunset, typically around 8:30 PM. This year’s theme, Summer of Friendship, celebrates the power of connection through a lineup of beloved films that resonate with audiences of all ages.
The series opens with Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, a heartwarming animated story about a spirited young girl in Hawaii who forms an unexpected bond with a mischievous alien experiment. Together, they discover the true meaning of family and friendship.
Next, the classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial invites viewers on a timeless journey as a young boy befriends a stranded alien. This beloved film explores empathy, loyalty, and the magic of childhood wonder.
Later in the season, The Iron Giant tells the story of a boy who discovers and befriends a massive robot from outer space. Their friendship teaches lessons of courage, acceptance, and standing up for what’s right in the face of fear.
The series concludes with a special Wicked Sing-Along, the critically acclaimed movie adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. This enchanting film reimagines the untold story of the witches of Oz, following the unlikely friendship between Elphaba and Glinda as they navigate rivalry, acceptance, and the courage to be true to themselves. Join us for a magical night celebrating the power of friendship, unforgettable music, and the wonder of Oz.
Bring your blankets, chairs, even an inflatable pool, and some of your favorite snacks for a relaxed night of film and friendship at Atlantic Street Park.
