The City of Hackensack hosted a Black History Month Celebration at the Civic Center on February 25th, providing a platform to honor the contributions of African Americans in our community. This event united residents and showcased the vibrant Black-owned businesses that are vital to our local economy.
While Hackensack has celebrated Black History Month in the past, this was the first event dedicated specifically to highlighting the achievements of local Black entrepreneurs. Attendees connected with business owners, learned about their businesses, and sampled authentically prepared cuisine. They also discovered the significant impact these businesses have on Hackensack’s economic and cultural landscape.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and to the local businesses that participated. Their involvement made the event memorable and impactful for all.
Following the celebration, the Mayor and City Council recognized the business owners during a Council Meeting, honoring their significant contributions to Hackensack’s economic and cultural vitality. This acknowledgment highlights the city’s commitment to supporting diversity and entrepreneurship.
The event was organized with the support of the City Manager’s Office, Mayor, and Council, who are dedicated to fostering community engagement and celebrating local achievements.
