The dedication ceremony, held yesterday, April 30th, was a moving event that brought together students, officials, family members, and community leaders. Attendees were treated to performances by students, reflecting the vibrant spirit that Whitaker nurtured throughout her career. Heartfelt speeches from city officials and family members painted a picture of a woman whose life was devoted to the service of others. In addition to the street renaming, a new vestibule at the school was dedicated in her honor, symbolizing her lasting influence on the educational environment.
During the ceremony, Hackensack Mayor John Labrosse read a proclamation from the City Council that highlighted Whitaker’s profound impact. The proclamation recognized her unwavering dedication to education and her role as a mentor, leader, and friend to many. Lillian Whitaker, who passed away on December 31st at the age of 71, was renowned for her tireless commitment to children and families. Her generosity and dedication were recognized in 1996 when she received The Record’s Community Service Award.
