Celebrating Rose Ascolese’s 100th Birthday

At the City Council Meeting on August 11, the City of Hackensack proudly honored longtime resident Rose Ascolese on her 100th birthday. Council Chambers was filled with family, friends, and neighbors who gathered to celebrate Rose’s remarkable life.

Born on Lodi Street in Hackensack in 1925, Rose has consistently given back to others and to her community.

She helped found the Saint Francis Church food pantry, is an active member of the Hackensack Socialites and the Golden Age Group, and has made hundreds of pounds of zeppoles for the Saint Francis Feast.

Rev. Brian Laffler of the Church of St. Anthony was present to offer a special prayer, recognizing Rose’s many years of service and her gift of longevity.

Known for her kindness, community spirit, and love of gardening, Rose continues to inspire those around her.

When asked about her secret to a long and happy life, Rose always says, “Don’t let things bother you; let them roll off your shoulders.” Her joyful attitude has touched generations in Hackensack.

Rose received a special proclamation recognizing her milestone birthday, celebrating her life and the joy she brings to the community.

Mayor Caseen Gaines also presented Rose with a tiara and sash, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone in the room.

To make the celebration even sweeter, 100 cupcakes were served to all attendees.

Reflecting on Rose’s impact, Deputy Mayor Agatha Toomey stated, “Rosie, your life has been a living history. You’ve seen the world change in extraordinary ways and touched more lives than you’ll ever know.”

Toomey continued, “You remind us all that age is not just about numbers, but about moments shared with loved ones, the lives you’ve touched, and the memories you’ve created. Here’s to a century well lived and a legacy that continues to shine. We are so lucky to know you.”

The Mayor and City Council thank everyone who attended and joined in honoring Rose. Happy 100th Birthday, Rose!
