Mechanic

Under direction of Fire Apparatus Mechanic, performs skilled mechanical work involving the maintenance, repair and servicing of various types of motor vehicles and/or motorized construction equipment. Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines, and examines parts for defects and excessive wear. Reconditions and replaces parts as needed. May perform road tests when necessary. Must maintain essential records and work orders. Applicant must possess two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of various types of motor vehicles and/or construction equipment, as well as successful completion of one (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school. One (1) additional year of experience may be substituted for formal training. Appointees are required to possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license, CDL a plus. Salary D.O.Q. within salary range: $40,000 to $56,750. This is a full-time, contractual position which includes health benefits, generous PTO, and enrollment in the State Pension Plan upon permanent appointment.
