The City Of Hackensack

Boxed School Lunch Giveaway

The City of Hackensack is proud to support our community by providing 1,500 boxed lunches to local families on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The initial 1,000 lunches were generously donated by Lorenzo Food Group of Englewood, and the additional lunches are made possible by $1,000 donations from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office PBA Local 221 and the law firm of Dario, Albert, Metz, Canda, Concannon & Ortiz.

With public schools closed on Thursday and Friday for the NJEA Teachers’ Convention, this initiative ensures that our children have access to a healthy lunch.

“No child in Hackensack should go hungry, whether it’s due to a government shutdown or a school closure,” said Mayor Caseen Gaines, “We are grateful to our community partners for helping to address the food insecurity too many of our residents are facing in this moment of uncertainty.”
Sign-Up Required:
Residents must register by Tuesday, November 4 to reserve lunches and select a pickup location. A limit of 4 lunches per household will be enforced to ensure fair distribution. This initiative is geared toward families with children who receive free/reduced lunch and/or SNAP benefits; however, all residents in need are welcome to participate.
