TWO WOMEN CHARGED WITH ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A CHILD IN HACKENSACK

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests of DEILY E. PEREZ of the Bronx, NY, and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER of Paterson, NJ, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. The arrests were the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Hackensack Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.

On Friday, September 11, 2026, the Division of Child Protection & Permanency contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit regarding the alleged physical assault of two juveniles at a daycare center in Hackensack, NJ. An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department revealed that DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER, both teacher’s assistants, physically abused two juveniles on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER were arrested in Hackensack, NJ, and charged with two counts each of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2). DEILY E. PEREZ and CHILLYANN V. SPENCER were remanded to the Bergen County Jail and had their first appearances in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ, where they were ordered released on Friday, September 18, 2026, pending further court action.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations, and that the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Prosecutor Musella would like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for its assistance in this investigation.
