The Arrest of Christopher Baboolal

The Hackensack Police Department announces the arrest of Christopher Baboolal of Hackensack on several criminal charges related to a criminal investigation.

On February 21, 2024, Hackensack Police Officers responded to a residential home on Poplar Avenue on a report of a person who was being held against their will at gunpoint. The suspect was encountered on the scene, and a neighboring police department located the victim. The victim was not injured and was subsequently transported to Police Headquarters for the investigation.

Patrol Officers, Detective Stanislav Tovbin, and members of the Detective Bureau conducted a follow-up investigation. As a result of their investigation, on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, CHRISTOPHER BABOOLAL was arrested without incident. He was charged with second-degree terroristic threats / N.J.S.A 2C:12-3A, second-degree possession of a firearm with no permit / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5B(1), second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4A(1), fourth-degree possession of a large capacity magazine / N.J.S.A. 2C:39-3J, third-degree criminal restraint / N.J.S.A. 2C:13-2A, and third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact / N.J.S.A. 2C: 14-3A. A firearm and large-capacity magazines were recovered from the crime scene.

Baboolal was processed and transported to the Bergen County Jail on a complaint warrant pending his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing court in Hackensack, NJ.

These charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Hackensack Police Department would also like to thank the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Ridgefield Park Police for their assistance in this investigation. The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office partnership with the Hackensack Police Department, will process the seized crime gun through the National Integrated Ballistics Imaging Network (NIBIN) to ensure it was not used in any other crime
