Police Execute Search Warrant, Arrest Man on Drug Charges

The Hackensack Police Department announces the arrest of 52-year-old MALCOLM S. BYER (DOB: 02/15/1974, unemployed) of Hackensack, NJ, on several criminal charges as the result of an investigation conducted by the Crime Suppression Bureau, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, members of the Crime Suppression Bureau, with the assistance of the Hackensack Police Department Emergency Services Unit, executed a Bergen County Superior Court authorized search warrant at MALCOLM S. BYER’S apartment in Hackensack. The search warrant yielded a quantity of cocaine individually packaged for street level narcotic sales, approximately $6,290.00 in suspected narcotic proceeds derived from criminal activity, and a narcotic manufacturing operation established for the processing and distribution of the narcotics.

As a result of the investigation, MALCOLM S. BYER was charged with maintaining or operating a controlled dangerous substance production facility / 2C:35-4 (first degree), manufacturing, distributing, or possession with the intent to distribute CDS / 2C:35-5B(5) (third degree), possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of certain public buildings (third degree) / 2C:35-7.1A, possession of CDS with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of school property (third degree), financial facilitation of criminal activity / 2C:21-25A (third degree), and endangering the welfare of a child (second degree) / 2C:24-4a(2).

MALCOLM S. BYER was processed and transported to the Bergen County Correctional and Rehabilitation Center on a complaint warrant pending his initial appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

These charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
