The Hackensack Police Department announces the arrest of RUBEN P. VERA (DOB- 8/3/1993, Newark, NJ,) for climbing through his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and assaulting her.

At approximately 12:32AM on 3/1/2026, a female Hackensack resident told police that VERA entered her apartment through the kitchen window approximately 30 minutes earlier. A Complaint Warrant was generated for violations of 2C: 18-2.1/Home Invasion Burglary (1st Degree) and 2C:12-1B(13)/Aggravated Assault by Strangulation (2nd Degree.)

On 10/8/2026, detectives from Hackensack PD’s Crime Suppression Bureau located VERA at a store in Newark, NJ and, with assistance from Newark PD’s Emergency Services Unit, VERA was arrested. VERA was remanded to Bergen County Jail pending his initial appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ. These charges are merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
