Man charged with endangering the welfare of a child and possession of fentanyl

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of 34-year-old OLUWATOBI “TOBI” A. BAMISILE of Hackensack, NJ, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child and possession of fentanyl. The arrest was the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Jeff Angermeyer, and the Hackensack Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Antista.

On Sunday, May 24, 2026, at approximately 8:05 p.m., the Hackensack Police Department and the Hackensack Fire Department responded to a private residence for a medical emergency involving a child. First responders arrived and discovered the child victim unresponsive. They initiated lifesaving measures, including the administration of naloxone, a medication used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids. First responders successfully revived the child, who was then transported by ambulance to an area hospital for further treatment. Detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit were notified of the incident, joined the Hackensack Police Department, and initiated a joint investigation into the incident.

The subsequent investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Hackensack Police Department revealed that OLUWATOBI “TOBI” A. BAMISILE possessed pills containing fentanyl within the residence and left them in an area easily accessible to the child. Further investigation revealed that two additional children also came into contact with the pills, and one of the other children briefly ingested a pill before quickly spitting it out.

As a result of the investigation, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, OLUWATOBI “TOBI” A. BAMISILE was arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, N.J.S.A. 2C:24-4a(2), and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance, N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10a(1). BAMISILE was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. He would like to thank the Hackensack Police Department for its assistance in this investigation. Moreover, he thanks the Hackensack Fire Department for its rapid response and lifesaving assistance at the scene.

Chief Antista commends all involved, especially the responding officers whose swift actions and lifesaving measures played a critical role in aiding the child.
