Hackensack City Council Honors Dedicated Public Servant Lillian Whitaker, Principal of Nellie K. Parker Elementary School

The Hackensack City Council extends its heartfelt condolences and recognizes the profound impact of Lillian Whitaker, who served as the beloved principal of Nellie K. Parker Elementary School and passed away on December 31. Known as the “Mother Teresa of the Class,” Lillian was deeply committed to education and had an unwavering dedication to her students and community, an influence that will be remembered for generations.

“Lillian Whitaker exemplified what it means to be a dedicated public servant,” said John Labrose, Hackensack Mayor and member of the City Council. “Her legacy will continue to inspire educators, students, and families throughout our community. She was not just a principal; she was a mentor, a leader, and a friend to so many.”

Principal Whitaker devoted over four decades to nurturing the minds and hearts of young learners in our city. Her passion for education was evident in every interaction, as she created a nurturing and inclusive environment that encouraged both academic excellence and personal growth. Under her leadership, Nellie K. Parker Elementary became a model of innovation, creativity, and community involvement.The City Council will dedicate a resolution in honor of Principal Whitaker, inviting community members to share their tributes and memories of her invaluable contributions.

As we mourn the loss of Lillian Whitaker, we also celebrate her extraordinary life and lasting influence on our community. Her spirit will live on in the countless individuals she inspired and the positive changes she brought to our schools.
