Chit Chat Diner Screwdriver Stabbing

The Hackensack Police Department announces the arrest of AGUSTIN FUENTES-SANCHEZ (DOB: 12/22/1969, truck driver) of Rochelle Park, NJ, on assault and weapons charges as the result of a criminal investigation conducted by the Patrol Bureau and the Detective Bureau.

On July 25, 2025, Hackensack Police Patrol Officers and members of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU) responded to the area of Essex Street near Porter Avenue for a report of a fight in progress. Officers determined that a 49-year-old male was walking across Porter Avenue in front of a vehicle exiting onto Essex Street, causing the vehicle to stop abruptly. A dispute ensued between the pedestrian and the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as AGUSTIN FUENTES-SANCHEZ, after the pedestrian kicked the vehicle.

During the dispute, FUENTES-SANCHEZ produced a screwdriver and assaulted the victim. The victim sustained a minor puncture wound and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. FUENTES-SANCHEZ was placed under arrest without incident, and the screwdriver was recovered as evidence.

  • Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (3rd Degree) – 2C:39-4
  • Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (4th Degree) – 2C:39-5

FUENTES-SANCHEZ was processed and transported to the Bergen County Jail on a complaint warrant, pending his initial appearance at Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ.

These charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Hackensack Police Department thanks the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team (RST) and its Emergency Services Unit for their assistance with this incident.
