Hackensack Fire Fighters 1st Narcan Save
On 07/26/15 Engine 2 responded to a civilian unconscious in front of 120 Arcadia. Upon arrival the Firefighter’s found a 31 year old male unconscious with pinpoint pupils, discolored skin and a very low respiratory rate. The patient’s friend said he may be overdosing on heroin. Hackensack PD was on scene but no BLS or ALS. The Firefighter’s administered oxygen with a nasal cannula in attempts to improve respiratory drive and also administered Narcan to the patient and his conditions gradually improved. HUMC ALS arrived on scene shortly after and administered additional narcan. The patient was transported by Hackensack Volunteer Ambulance Corp to HUMC at which time he was alert and conscience.
