Brief overview of actions: Fire department received a call from off duty Fire Inspector Charles Eyer reporting a fully involved house fire at 356 Park Street. After rep orting the fire FF Eyer assisted HPD officer John Herman with alerting and assisting in the evacuation of occupants in both 352 and 356 Park Street. Members of the Second Platoon under the command of D/C Stephen Kalman responded. Upon arrival they were met with a very well involved house fire involving a three family wood frame dwelling. Hose lines were advanced to extinguish the exterior fire involving the entire front of the building and then they began to advance into the first floor hallway where they encountered heavy fire and high heat. Other units advanced up the rear fire escape to perform search and rescue on the upper floors while additional units searched # 352 Park Street which was in danger of igniting due to the extreme radiant heat. The fire had spread so rapidly to the second and third floors, which were now fully involved, that all members were ordered to evacuate the building. Several large hose lines were used from outside the building to extinguish most of the fire which then allowed members to advance hand lines to all floors inside of the house to complete the extinguishment process. The entire building is uninhabitable and the occupants from all three apartments were relocated to either relatives or Red Cross housing. Hackensack Fire Department investigators conducted the cause and origin investigation. The fire originated on the covered front porch near the “A”/”B” corner of the structure and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and still under investigation.
