Hackensack Recycling Challenge: Cans for Cash
Hackensack is competing in a national recycling competition where the winning city will receive up to $10,000 in awards. Hackensack hopes to collect the most recyclable aluminum beverage cans through its current commingled curbside recycling collection. No additional separation will be needed. The challenge will last for four weeks, starting Oct. 1 and ending Oct. 31. The city will be credited for the percentage of its commingled recyclables which, by state Department of Environmental Protection standards, is believed to be aluminum. For more information about the challenge, call 201-646-8049. The contest is sponsored by the United States Conference of Mayors and Novelis Corporation.
