Smoke Alarms Save Lives.
On Monday, September 10, 2007, at 1552 hours, the Hackensack Fire Department received a 911 telephone call reporting smoke in the hallway of 377 Park Street. As the members of the First Platoon arrived on scene, the Firefighters found smoke showing from the second floor windows. The Firefighters quickly stretched attack hose line into the building and up to the second floor of the three story multiple dwelling. Other Firefighters raised the aerial to the roof to ventilate, and additional Firefighters forced entry into the apartment and began to search the fire apartment for victims. The hose team confined and extinguished the fire to the room of origin; however the apartment sustained heavy smoke and heat damage.
The Red Cross relocated four adults as the fire apartment and surrounding apartments were red tagged by City Building Department.
The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.
