With the completion of the Palisades Park Sportsplex, which includes a challenger baseball field, I am proud to introduce an exciting new program available for adults over 21 who are mentally and/or physically challenged. It is a baseball program that is newly formed by the Bergen County Parks Department and the Bergen County Division on Disability Services.

The games will be played at the new Sportsplex at the end of Roosevelt Avenue, just off Grand Avenue in Palisades Park. The Challenger Ballfield is fully handicap accessible, from the artificial turf field to the bleachers.

There will be a ten game schedule, one on a weekday and one on the weekend. We hope you will participate. We will have opening ceremonies on May 7. 2006 at 1 1:30 a.m. with lunch followed by two ball games.

The games will be non-competitive and all players will bat each inning. The program will be based on Little League's highly successful, Challenger Division. There will be a $25 registration fee. We will supply all the equipment, shirts, and hats. The player must supply the glove. Transportation will not be provided.

Since this is a new league program, we are in need of coaches and any other support help. Coaches and support staff will be required to take a safety course and undergo a background check, for which the County will pay. There is a fee for the safety course, which is the responsibility of the coach. There will be an orienteering meeting on April 23rd, at the site. Coaches report at noon and players report at 1pm.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in serving this worthwhile program, please call 201-336-7250 and speak to Debbie Ralph in the Parks Department, no later than April 7, 2006. With your help and cooperation, we can get all people within Bergen County to participate in sports.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
