Property Tax Revaluation: Open Public Forums

Pursuant to the state order, the City of Hackensack is conducting a complete revaluation of all properties in the City for the tax year 2007. The purpose of the revaluation is to determine the "fair market value" as of October 1, 2006 of each property. This will ensure a fair and equitable distribution of the tax burden among all property owners.

The City hired Realty Appraisal Company to conduct the revaluation. Realty Appraisal will hold open public forums to answer questions about the process. All Hackensack residents and property owners are invited to attend.

Forums are scheduled as follows:

May 3, 2006
Hillers School
7 p.m.

May 24, 2006
Fairmount School
7 p.m.

June 21, 2006
High School
7 p.m.

Residents may also review the notice and flyer that was mailed several months ago.

The open public forums are a good opportunity to learn more about the process. Specific properties, their values and the effect of revaluation on taxes for specific properties will not be discussed.

The purpose of these forums is to proved residents with the opportunity to learn about how the revaluation system is structured and what to expect as the process moves forward.
