City of Hackensack Opens COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic

100 Local Seniors Receive Moderna Vaccine on First Day

HACKENSACK, NJ -- On Wednesday morning, Mayor John Labrosse and the City Council opened the city's first COVID-19 vaccine clinic for eligible residents. The clinic administered 100 doses of the Moderna vaccine to Hackensack seniors throughout the course of the day, including residents of the Hackensack Housing Authority’s senior buildings. The City’s Health Department has partnered with the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative (BVMI) to set-up the clinics with further assistance from the Hackensack University Medical Center, which provided staffing help.

"Today is a hopeful day for the City of Hackensack. It is hard to believe how far we've come over the past year, but this is a step back towards the sense of normalcy and safety we all crave,” said Mayor Labrosse. "We would like to thank the Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative and Hackensack University Medical Center for partnering with us in our efforts to get all eligible residents vaccinated. Lastly, we'd like to thank our Health Officer Susan McVeigh, who has been working tirelessly throughout the past year to make this day possible."

Over the past several months, the Hackensack Health Department has been taking steps to provide a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for eligible residents, particularly seniors and those without available transportation to one of Bergen County's larger sites. The City's Health Department is certified by the State of NJ to operate a COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic and has been allocated a small supply of vaccine to administer to eligible Hackensack residents. City officials are hopeful that there will be an adequate vaccine supply for the State DOH to continue to allocate to the clinic weekly and until all eligible residents are fully vaccinated.

"BVMI is answering the call from public officials to use all available resources to vaccinate as many people as possible to aid in the recovery from this pandemic," said Amanda Missey, President & CEO of BVMI. "We are happy to enter into this partnership with Hackensack to assist in the vaccinations of BVMI patients and Hackensack residents."

The Health Department has set up an email address and phone number for eligible Hackensack residents who have not obtained a vaccine to sign up for a waiting list to receive doses at the city clinic. Residents should email health@hackensack.org or call 201-646-3967 (for those who do not have access to the internet) to schedule an appointment. Please note that vaccinations at the City clinic are available by appointment only and only open to those that are currently eligible for vaccination under state guidelines. The City is continually updating COVID-19 information and resources for vaccination links on the City’s website at www.hackensack.org.
