Hackensack Resident Tests Positive for Coronavirus

City Offices to Close to the Public Starting Tuesday

City officials are announcing that a 49 year old female Hackensack resident has tested positive for COVID-19/Coronavirus. The resident was tested at a local hospital and was discharged to self-quarantine and recover at home. The Hackensack Health Department will remain in contact with the resident throughout her recovery, and no other personal information about the resident will be released due to medical privacy laws.

“The City of Hackensack will continue taking steps to ensure that our residents are practicing social distancing and that we are all doing what we can to slow the spread of the virus,” said Mayor John Labrosse. “It’s also important to show compassion and kindness to our elderly or immunocompromised neighbors who are particularly vulnerable right now, as well as common sense in not putting people at risk unnecessarily. The best thing we can do is to stay at home as much as possible and limit our exposure.”

City of Hackensack offices, including City Hall, will be closed to the public starting Tuesday, March 17th. City departments will work diligently to provide information and services via phone/email.

While the community collectively responds to this public health crisis, it is essential for all residents to do their part to help. We are calling on residents to observe the following recommendations:

  • Practice social distancing, including remaining home if possible and if you have to go out leaving six feet of space from the nearest person.

  • Continue to follow CDC guidelines including frequently washing your hands, disinfecting surfaces, etc.

  • Please refrain from hoarding food and cleaning products -- buy what your family needs, but be considerate of others who also have needs.

  • Whenever possible, check on senior citizen or disabled family or neighbors who are most at risk.
