The Hackensack Recreation Department provides a range of programs for a variety of interests. Throughout the year special events are scheduled including magic shows, parties, and other recreational activities. The Recreation Department prepares a flyer for each season, which includes the fees and times of the programs. For the latest available information on programs, call the Recreation Department (201-646-8042) from 9a.m. to 4p.m.

Registration for all programs takes place at the Recreation Department office. Space in some programs is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Late registrations are not accepted. Registration for most programs is accepted through the mail.

Park Permits
To reserve a park or baseball/softball diamond, call the Recreation Department. Permits are issued on an available basis for a fee. Permits are issued to City residents and to businesses that are based in Hackensack. It is recommended that a request for a permit be made at least two weeks in advance of anticipated use. Selected fields in Foschini Park are not available until the end of June.

Jr. Sport Programs 
The following Jr. Sport programs are offered to children who live in Hackensack. Costs for each sport vary. Volunteer coaches are always needed and appreciated for all sports. The success of the Jr. Sport programs is shown by the success of the Hackensack High School teams. Most of these athletes have gone through the Hackensack Jr. Sport programs. March: Senior St Patrick's Day Luncheon
March/April: Egg Hunt at Staib Park
May/June Senior citizen prom.
July: Fireworks at Foschini Park
October: Childrens Halloween Party; Hackensack Middle School Halloween Dance
November: Senior Citizen Novemberfest Luncheon
December: Childrens Holiday Party; Tree Lighting

General Programs

Bowling
Fall and Spring.  Program is after school once a week at Bowler City.

Tennis Lessons for Adults and Children
Lessons are held at Johnson Park Tennis Courts in Fall and Spring. Instructor: Steve Jackson.

Karate Lessons for ages 5-13 
Lessons are held at Shotokan Karate School on Main Street.

Ice Skating Lessons for Children in grades K-8
Lessons are held at the Ice House in Hackensack.

Open Gym Open to Students in Middle/High School
At the Recreation Center from 3-5pm, Middle school students Tue/Fri, High school students Mon/Thurs.

Seniors in Motion Exercise Class
Classes are held at the Recreation Center. $2.00 per session. Open to any Senior Citizen.
Instructor Roger Turner (Hackensack Resident) incorporates many exercises and activities for every skill level making it fun for everyone.
