Q. How can I become a Police Officer or Fire Fighter in the city of Hackensack?

A. First, you must be a Hackensack resident under the age of 35. Second, you must file and pass a Civil Service examination administered by the New Jersey Department of Personnel. Go to this link for further information.

Q. When will the next test be announced for Police and Fire?

A. Both tests for Police Officer and Fire Fighter are now announced every two (2) years.  We expect the New Jersey Department of Personnel to announce both in 2008.  See www.state.nj.us/personnel .

A. Complete an “Application for Employment” and mail or fax same to the address/number at the top of the form.
