Under supervision, performs various types of manual and unskilled laboring work, and may drive a truck in connection with laboring work on occasion; does other related duties as required. Must be able to load, lift and move equipment and supplies. Cut grass, trim hedges, snow removal , cold patching/street repair work. Operation of construction and maintenance equipment, sewer repair, building maintenance, & routine repairs. Additional responsibilities will be discussed upon interview/hiring process. ASSISTANT ZONING OFFICER - CITY OF HACKENSACK, Bergen County.
Full Time (Building Dept.) Salary Range: DOQ. Under the direction of the Zoning Officer, examines the working plans of proposed buildings for their compliance with state, county, and local zoning laws, ordinances, rules and regulations. Consults with architects/owners on compliance problems. Must have the ability to conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with zoning regulations/rules and initiates enforcement actions against violators. Two years’ experience in the preparation and revision of building construction plans and specs or in the full time inspection and enforcement of zoning and/or building construction laws and regulations. Seeking a full time supervisor to work with staff performing grounds and turf maintenance, trims, cuts grass and hedges, marks athletic fields, re-grades ball fields, picks up refuse from grounds, plants and maintains shrubs, trees and flowers, sets up bleachers, minor repairs to playground equipment. Use of mowers, weed wackers, leaf blowers, snow blowers, etc. Other related duties as required. MECHANIC DIESEL – HACKENSACK CITY, Bergen County **NIGHT SHIFT (4pm to Midnight) & DAYTIME SHIFT (8pm – 4pm) - Salary Range: $40,000 - $56,100- must possess a NJ valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class “A”. Must have practical shop, computer diagnostic experience and be knowledgeable in diesel engines. Experience in repairing Police Vehicles, Light to Heavy Duty Trucks, Construction Equipment, Landscaping Equipment, & Snow Removal Equipment. Diagnoses trouble, disassembles engines, and examines parts for defects and excessive wear. Reconditions and replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves, and bushings, and using engine lathes, boring machines, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments. Successful completion of one (1) year of training in automotive technology at an accredited community college or vocational school. Two (2) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of diesel engines. Applicants who do not possess the required year of formal training may substitute one (1) additional year of experience. Possession of a certificate as a diesel mechanic issued by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence may be substituted for one (1) year of formal training. Salary D.O.Q. BUILDING INSPECTOR- HACKENSACK CITY, Bergen County. FULL TIME (40 hrs. per week) / PART TIME (20 hrs. per week) positions available. Under direction, inspects new and existing buildings and structures to ensure compliance with the State Uniform Construction Code and enforces same to ensure public safety, health, and welfare; does related work as required. Inspects construction jobs, checks quality and amount of work completed, and resolves construction problems. Enforcement of the City of Hackensack’s municipal code items, zoning laws and other State laws and regulations is a must. Candidate must be responsible, dependable, organized with strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to multi-task and work well with the public. Must be experienced, UCC license, knowledge of Mitchell Humphreys construction and zoning program, knowledge of basic material standards, codes, and enforcement requirements related to weather ability and durability of installed construction materials. Under direction, reviews plans and performs electrical inspection work to enforce the State Uniform Construction Code, the electrical subcode, and regulations adopted pursuant to the Uniform Construction Code Act; does other related work. Must be able to inspect and evaluate electrical work on construction projects. Must be able to inspect electrical installations in existing buildings for conformance with the minimum safety standards incorporated in the regulations of the Uniform Code and relevant laws within the jurisdiction.
